I said to myself I would not join this platform! I admit that I have an addiction, yes it may not be bad as others but man does not need anymore problems lol. I'm always looking online especially for pairs I caught the L on, some I would pass on which didn't care about but the important ones, I'd try to find for a reasonable price. My friends told me how their wife's beat them because how many sneakers they buy without asking for permission LOOOL! They did however tell me how addictive this App was and how it is as pretty much everything is available on there but there are also steals on there too and to watch out for them.
After watching some videos and reading about reviews of the service it seems like US has more issues than the UK. One video I came across, dude got a fake pair of AJ1 Travis Hi and nothing was done, not sure if that was resolved. Then StockX not so long ago their system/ data had a breach pf customer's details possibly including bank details and so on.
Why did I join them after that?
Well when a company goes through something like this they up their security game, so nothing like this happens again. I am certain they don't want to pay a hefty fine or loose customers again because they definitely took a hit it seems. I also recently found out they had a 'Pop up' in London where you could drop off your sold sneakers and you would literally have the money in your account before you left, but its closed now - not sure if it was because of Covid-19 or if they shutdown shop before.
I really wanted the AM1 Chinese New Year 'Longevity' this was an Asia Exclusive! I was like "Argh man!" but when I saw a few friends in the sneaker community with a pair and some even doubled up, I was like wtf? So I asked them.. How? Where? Haha! Some said they got lucky with raffles and few went to StockX because they lost on raffles. I asked them if they had any issues with their service and they all said it was all good, they always shop on there.
So why this shoe? Bro! Its such a beautifully designed shoe, even the box and the paper! But more so I don't own a pair of AM1! Yes I know, I know! I really wanted my first pair to be special so here we are. I was really worried that I may end up taking so long to sign up and use this service that the shoe would sell out. My wife even has a pair and she converted to a Sneakerhead late 2019. I mean I've always wanted a pair but just never had the urge apart from the OG Red.
My first experience?
My main worry was, what if I get a fake pair which got though authentication like the dude with the Travis AJ1 Hi? What about if the box is damaged during transit? Before you say anything "but does man wear the box?" Kmt, I don't care, I want the box to be in perfect condition! I mean I'm paying for it no? What if I got unlucky and then I'm stuck in some madness. StockX do not have a contact number, just a contact form. These are just a few things I thought about. I can happily say, everything was perfect! Full tracking details, shoe was perfect. The box was 9.9 out of 10 it had light scuffs but my OCD could let that slide lol, you get a verification slip and the famous green hang tag. There was only a top layer of bubble wrap, which I'd prefer to bubble wrap the whole box so its full safe.I had questions about selling, I sent them an email from the contact form and they got back to me within 48hrs, I'm impressed so far.
How does it work? You can buy in two different ways. One is you accept to buy the lowest ask (green button). Or you bid (red button) the highest and keep watch. You can also view past sales, they have a date and time stamp, dope insights. Its really simple to use - interface is very user friendly. I paid with PayPal and it arrived within 8 days (UPS), amazing! The box was good/ strong too! So here is my shoe break down:
Purchase price £175 (retail £125) Processing fee £5.25
Shipping £13.50
Total cost: £192.75
The one issue I'm confused about! The only thing I'm confused about is. So if I bid £110 on a shoe, the last sale will show £85? I really don't get how that works because the highest bid is more likely be accept right, I've noticed this a few times now. I am literally bidding on a shoe now lol and my bid is £90 but the last sale was £79. Yeah, I haven't got a clue! If you know, drop me a DM please lol.
Advice To my younger audience, please be safe when using this platform especially during the current concerns of Covid-19 and the start of the new Recession. Do not spend money that you don't have. Save for a few months instead, this way if you still feel the same about the shoes after a few months then get it. If not, then send that into your savings account bro.
Overall So it looks like buying sneakers on this platform is safe but the issues seem to only be the expensive/ hyped sneakers that are more likely to have problems - the possibility of buying a fake that slips through verification but I'm sure they have something in place if this was to happen, right? I mean fakes nowadays are looking better than the original. I'll write another article soon about my first sale and how it works.
I've also heard of GOAT but haven't used them yet, but will check them out for sure.
