How to build your Brand on Instagram

Instagram turns 10 years old this year! The good old days without the damn Coronavirus! So, is Instagram still relevant in 2020? Instagram is the most relevant platform out there! Why? Because even you parents know about it lol. They may not yet know about Tik Tok as its still fairly new.

Remember social media is a two way conversation. Instagram is highly visual and the most robust. Snapchat is a messaging platform, it cannot be compared to Instagram.

Are you a Creative? Blogger?

Content Creator/ Curator? Or have you got a solution for a problem?

Have you ever thought about creating a personal brand?

You know who you are and you know what you want right? Basically its a visual representation of your identity, including logo, tagline, design, distinguishable features/ colour palettes and all that good stuff! Thats it!

“I've been been on Instagram since 2012. Crazy how this platform has evolved. Isn't it beautiful? I wasn't too big on Facebook or Snapchat but IG, I fell straight in love. ”

If you're already creating content and sharing it - think about why do you do it?

Does your content reflect you/ your goals? What is your niche? How are you communicating your brand? Blog, website, socials, photos, merch and so on. I think right now during Convid-19, its the perfect time for you to create a personal brand, especially if you are already creating content! If not, why not start now? Think about - what you're passionate about? What are you good at? Get up and grab a pen and piece of paper right now.

How do I start this though?

Easy, find 2-5 creatives/ brands which you like and get inspired. Define your brand's ethos. Is your content going to help fix a problem? You could also create website fast nowadays! A few to name, Wix, Squarespace and Wordpress. I also just found out recently that Wix offers an analytics tool but there may be a cost but its a great way to see stats/ traffic.

Story telling is super important! Check out my other post on 'Whats your Brand's story?' where I explain more on this topic. Try to post content or stories that leads to a DM.

Your profile bio is crucial! Oh! My days! I cannot stress how important it is. You want people to be able to connect with you easily, so be sure to have an email contact button. Really important, if you don't space, make some - add your email address on there too because if a brand/ company is looking at your profile on a desktop, it does NOT have the email button!

So how easy is it for someone to access your contact information?

Create goals! For instance a mailing list - create an asset. You can also say each month you want to get 20-25 users subscribing to your mailing list. I think that is realistic, set your goals!

Highlights are dope. Make sure your best content highlights are at the front (top 5) so they are seen straight away. Think about it, who are you trying to attract? What sponsors do you want? If you have more than 15 highlights, it maybe a bit of a hassle to swipe. All posts from stories can be added, even if after 24 hours, check your archives. Try to make your highlight covers consistent. Editing covers has never been so easy, with the new update you can now add any photo from your camera roll! You no longer need to add it to you stories.

Are you new to this?

Here are a few things to think about:

Who is your audience is? Who wants to share your content?

Finding out what content you are good at?

ALL THIS CONTENT IS ABOUT STIMULATING PEOPLE.

I am a blogger but I'm the face of the brand right? My Instagram is a digital version of me. I connect with my users, its a must for any brand. Respond to all comments and answer every single DM. Sometimes I randomly comment and like some of my follower's content. You don't have to follow everyone who follows you but I believe that you have to show love, and be humble. I love IG stories, once I start I just can't shut up lol, jump on stories from time to time and show behind the scenes/ bloopers or just a part of your everyday life or a day in the office, prepping content, the ups and the downs, I love to see all this - your audience will love that too! This is true and raw content. Its real!

The advice I'd give to any new bloggers or personal brands is to 'be true' to yourself and your brand. At the end people/ your audience are following you for you, nothing else. They are taking their time out to watch your content. This is your brand, don't watch anyone else, there are way too many personal brands/ bloggers that look the same nowadays. I share past experiences, the good and the bad, funny stories growing up and positive vibes, and a lot of married life banter as well as the sneaker and food stuff. You have to connect to your audience. This is key people.

Build a community, give back. I do giveaways randomly but mostly when I am happy or if I buy something extra. Find your niche, make a realistic plan and stick to the time frame. Manage your time each day, make sure you have a to-do list that you need to complete. Creating content is such an underrated skill, some people just don't know.
